Sarah’s Bat Mitzvah

What a fantastic time at the top of the city! Sarah’s party was at the Buckhead Club, and the views from on high were mesmerizing. No less mesmerizing was the decor for the equestrian themed extravaganza! Cunning horse centerpieces, show ribbons and ballon be-decked buckets by Ballonacy  made the perfect setting for Sarah’s special night.

I really enjoyed working with Sarah and her family- when we were shooting her at the stable where she rides, at the bimah, and capturing them all enjoying themselves Saturday night!

Kudos to mom Beth for pulling it all together!

Better at the Bimah

Sometimes you just walk in at the right  time. When I  arrived at Temple Emanu El last Thursday to photograph Ross, the lights in the sanctuary were off. Donning my kipah, I went in, marveling at the light streaming through the windows high above and the sense of quietude and well, devotion that permeated the space. I  wondered if this was what the architect had in mind when he had visualized the sanctuary, a place of streaming natural light from above illuminating the ark and congregants. And I thought I would try something different.

When Ross arrived, I said that we were going to work with the light off for awhile and showed him some of the test shots I had taken. He assured me that he was up for standing still for awhile so I could make the portrait.

And her are some of the results…

As the Rabbi came in, the lights came back up, and I made some other photos of Ross- I think just as good, just different. But the next time I’m at shul, photographing a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, I’m going to turn the lights off.

Personal Work

For my personal work, I’m a little old school- I shoot on film and make back and white prints in my darkroom.  Here are some recent prints….

Sunday Show!

We had a great time at the Marcus Jewish Community Center’s Mitzvah Expo on Sunday! Thanks to all 600 of you who came, and much appreciation to those of you who stopped by my booth to say hello and to find out more about my services.

Benjamin’s Bar Mitzvah at Temple Emanu El!

We had a great time photographing Benjamin Zusmann’s party at Temple Emanu El on January 29! Kudos to Lynn Zinn of Zinnsations.com on the fantastic rock and roll theme and to Benjamin’s mom, Robin, who pulled off all of the planning! Lou from Spectrum Entertainment rocked the floor and a great time was had by all!

Here’s a link to some of my favorite photos from the event, and check back soon for more!
